CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A to Debut in South Korea

Rev. A Is Poised to Increase the Performance of Wireless Broadband Technology in Korea

COSTA MESA, Calif., Nov. 13, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) reported today that LG Telecom (LGT) is committed to deploying CDMA2000(r) 1xEV-DO Revision A (Rev. A). Rev. A is expected to advance the performance of the operator's mobile broadband service offerings. Recent market studies reveal HSDPA and WiBro are being adopted more slowly than expected in Korea. Rev. A will help propel Korea's wireless broadband industry to the next level by offering symmetric, delay-sensitive and advanced broadband services two years ahead of any other technology.

LGT intends to offer Rev. A services using existing spectrum within the first half of 2007. The relatively easy network upgrade will allow LGT to begin offering new and enhanced broadband data services to compete more aggressively against its larger competitors.

"South Korea is an important incubator for advanced technologies," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "LG Telecom's choice to upgrade to Rev. A demonstrates the power of an in-band upgrade and evolutionary technology path that delivers substantial performance at an incremental cost."

Rev. A's most compelling benefits are the increased uplink speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps and downlink speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps, and substantially lower latencies to support delay sensitive applications such as voice over IP (VoIP). As an all-IP platform, Rev. A will allow an operator's network to support higher voice capacity, lower operating costs, faster development of applications and services, and a wider range of auxiliary access networks.

"CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A is a natural evolution for our CDMA2000 network," said June Hyuk Kwon, Network Planning Team, LG Telecom. "With a fairly easy network upgrade, we will be able to expand our portfolio of services nationwide by offering our subscribers several new broadband data applications, as well as an improved customer experience. With Rev. A, we will be well-positioned to meet the future needs of our clients and grow our business."
