University of Texas-Arlington Alumni Association Joins Fight Against ID Theft

UTA Encourages Alumni, Faculty, Staff and Students to Let LifeLock Remove ID Theft Worries

CHANDLER, Ariz., Nov. 15, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The University of Texas -- Arlington Alumni Association today announced it has selected LifeLock as the Identity Theft Protection partner for its more than 130,000 alumni throughout the U.S. UTA joins the University of Oklahoma and University of Nebraska Alumni Associations as the first three universities to offer graduates the LifeLock Preventative ID Theft Solution.

The partnership with the UT Arlington Alumni Association will be unique since all current students, faculty and staff will be able to take advantage of LifeLock as part of the current UT Arlington alumni membership program.

"We are honored to be one of the first three universities to offer this service to our alumni, students, faculty and staff to help educate and prevent them from identity theft," said Kerri Ressl, Assistant Director for Membership and Marketing for the UT Arlington Alumni Association.

Labeled "The fastest growing crime in America." it was predicted that in the United States alone, 15 million people (or 1 in 20) will have their identity compromised in 2006 -- that's more than a 350 percent increase from a year ago. To date, more than 100,000,000 people have been affected by losses of personal data in the last 20 months, including more than 5 million from university losses.

"Everyone associated with the UT Arlington Alumni Association now have the opportunity to completely remove the worry of ID theft," said LifeLock CEO Todd Davis. "While other universities settle to offer monitoring services that provide no protection, UTA has joining the growing group of organizations that will stress prevention. Identity Theft will only stop when personal information is made useless to anyone but the rightful owner. This partnership will give those associated with the Alumni Association at the University of Texas -- Arlington the chance to take back control and never worry about the crime again."

LifeLock does the prevention work by maintaining active fraud alerts with the three major credit bureaus, as well as ChexSystems. The LifeLock system makes personal information useless to everyone but the rightful owner. Every time someone attempts to open credit, change an address or make changes to bank accounts, LifeLock is there to ensure the right person is making the request.

Also unique to other products on the market, LifeLock removes a member's name from solicitation lists and junk mail, eliminating a primary target of ID thieves -- the pre-approved credit offer. Best of all, the LifeLock system is backed by a $1 million guarantee to completely fix any problems if a client was ever compromised.

"There is no other service that will provide the complete protection we do," added Davis. "We understand that most people do not worry about identity theft until they are required too. However, by then it is too late and the damage is done. With our service protecting them, alumni, students, faculty and staff at the University of Texas -- Arlington can now keep their focus on education."

Based in Chandler, Arizona, LifeLock is the leader in identity theft prevention and the only ID theft company to partner with the National Crime Prevention Council. For more information on LifeLock and this partnership, go to www.lifelock.com or www.uta.edu/alumni
