ABILENE, Kan., Nov. 17, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Duckwall-ALCO Stores, Inc. (Nasdaq:DUCK) has named Tom L. Canfield, Jr. to the position of Senior Vice President. Canfield, a native of Chapman, Kan., joined the Company in 1973.
Over the course of his career at the regional retailer, Canfield has primarily managed logistics and administration. He was named a Vice President in 1988 and most recently served as Vice President -- Administration and Distribution. In his new role, Canfield will continue to manage those functions and also takes on the responsibility for Human Resources, Employee Benefits and Insurance.
Canfield reports to President and Chief Executive Officer Bruce Dale. "I am extremely pleased to be able to promote Tom to this position," said Dale. "He has an exceptional track record with Duckwall-ALCO Stores and has been instrumental to the growth of the Company. I am confident Tom will make a significant contribution to our Human Resources, Employee Benefits and Insurance functions."
The Company also announced that on November 16, 2006 it opened its 188th ALCO store in Girard, Kansas.
