The Public Services Summit event has been co-hosted for five years by the
city of Stockholm and Cisco, and this year it is expected to attract some
300 senior decision makers from around the world. The theme of the summit
will be to "inspire, innovate and empower" in creating the society of the
future. Kristina Alvendal, the Vice Mayor of Stockholm, will showcase some
of the leading online government initiatives that have recently been
introduced in the Swedish capital.
"Public sector heads recognize now more than ever the need to exchange
information and best practice with counterparts worldwide," says Alvendal.
"Co-hosting this event gives us an opportunity not only to demonstrate the
technology-enabled advances we are making in Sweden, but also to learn from
the many high-profile speakers and attendees who will come here."
Public Services Summit @ Nobel Week 2006 is a networking event where
attendees can share issues, views and information openly with peers.
"One of the positive aspects about the meeting is that it allows mutual
sharing of experiences in a very confidential atmosphere, people are not
obliged to put a positive spin on their situation. They can also discuss
problems with others who may be in a position to help," says Yvon Le Roux,
Cisco's vice president for the public sector in Europe and emerging
markets. "The theme of this event -- Inspire, Innovate and Empower -- will
touch on many of the perennial issues for the public sector: how government
departments can become more effective, how they can break down the
institutional barriers between them, how they can create citizen
satisfaction and, last but not least, how to create economic growth through
innovation."
