Microsemi Launches Miniature Surface Mount Package for Broadband, WLAN and WiMAX Applications

IRVINE, Calif., Nov. 21, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading manufacturer of high reliability semiconductors, has announced a new surface mount package for high performance microwave PIN, Schottky and Varactor diodes used in broadband, WLAN and WiMAX applications.

 -- Superior power handling
 -- Economical solution
 -- High performance

Called "Gigamite(tm)", the new Microsemi surface mount package measures only 1.3mm wide by 1.8mm long and 0.88mm high. It is designed to provide an economical high performance solution that includes cost-saving automated tape and reel assembly.

"We've long been known for our innovative packaging capabilities," said John Caruso, Vice President and General Manager of Microsemi's Microwave Products operation in Lowell, Massachusetts. "Gigamite provides our customers with another surface mount option that includes our Monolithic Microwave Surface Mount (MMSM(tm)) and Enhanced Performance Surface Mount(tm) (EPSM) products," he said.

The patent-pending package had its first public showing in Munich, Germany, at the Electronica 2006 international trade fair November 14-17. Microsemi will apply the new package on a variety of high performance microwave PIN, Schottky and varactor diodes -- initially in response to customer designs in broadband, WLAN and WiMAX products.

Microsemi's Microwave Products operation manufactures high reliability RF and microwave PIN and limiter diodes, tuning and multiplier varactors, noise diodes, Schottky-barrier diodes, MNS chip capacitors and solid state control modules. Frequencies range from 100 Hz through millimeter wave.
