QPRwines Bordeaux Issue Shows the 2004 Vintage Best Buys

New Improvements in Wine Buying Guide Allow for More Wines to be Compared

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 21, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- QPRwines recently published its Bordeaux issue that covers the 2000-2004 vintages with over 1,000 Bordeaux wines compared in this 65-page buying guide available at no charge at QPRwines.com.

With 60% of 2004 vintage Bordeaux scoring 90 points or above, and the average price for a 2004 Bordeaux at $37, this vintage is on track to be a "value vintage" along with the famed 2000 vintage. Even at today's prices, the 2000 Bordeaux vintage wines average $44 for a 90-point wine, and 54% of the wines score 90-points or better.

QPRwines continues to use subscriber feedback to improve its wine buying guide. With Volume 3, QPRwines adds the availability (low, medium and high) of each wine and the guide now includes all wines that have been scored by two or more critics, even when a price is not available. For these wines without prices, QPRwines includes what price the wine would need to be to score within the "Average," "Value," and "Great Value" categories allowing the consumer to quickly determine that wine's QPR.

Subscribers could not agree more; Tom N. from Washington, D.C. writes: "I love this newsletter. It encourages me to explore wines I might not otherwise try. Not only does it put different ratings together, but it lets you see the range of vintages for a particular rating. This is very instructive because a cross comparison of, say, 90 ratings does a lot to tell me what that final QPR number really means to me."

How QPRwines Works

Each issue of QPRwines groups wines by score, lists them by price and ranks them by value for recent vintages. A wine's QPR (Quality-Price Ratio) is how much more or less it costs compared to the average price of similarly scored wines. For example, the average price for a 90-rated Bordeaux is $47; however the 2003 Les Grands Marechaux, Premieres Cotes de Blaye costs only $18 -- a number that is 38% of the average price of $47 for a 90-point Bordeaux. Thus the 2003 Les Grands Marechaux, Premieres Cotes de Blaye has a Quality to Price Ratio (QPR) of 38%. A wine's score is determined by averaging no fewer than two 100-point reviews from the major wine critics.
