Airvana Wins 2006 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Award

Recognized for Its Innovative Leadership in Enabling Voice over IP (VoIP) Over EV-DO Rev. A Networks

CHELMSFORD, Mass. and HONG KONG, Dec. 7, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Airvana, Inc. (www.airvana.com), an innovator and leader in mobile broadband infrastructure based on 3G wireless packet data technology, today announced that it won the CDMA Development Group's (CDG) 2006 3G CDMA Industry Achievement Award for Network Technology Innovation. Winners were announced yesterday evening during the Mobile Entertainment Forum's (MEF) wireless industry reception in Hong Kong. Several companies and individuals were recognized for excellence in deploying advanced 3G CDMA networks, products, and services.

The coveted CDG Network Technology Award is given to the network technology company that has best leveraged the capabilities of 3G CDMA to introduce innovative services to the market. This fall, Airvana made the industry's very first Quality of Service (QoS)-enabled mobile-to-mobile Voice over IP (VoIP) call on a commercially available CDMA2000(r) 1xEV-DO Rev. A network. CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Rev. A will support multiple QoS flows per handset, giving each handset the ability to prioritize between VoIP and data packets during a call. The introduction of reliable, carrier-grade, VoIP telephony services over mobile broadband networks, coupled with the accelerated use of other multimedia applications, will increasingly support Airvana's vision to make mobile broadband networks the primary conduit for mobile communications and entertainment.

"Airvana has been working hard on quality-of-service, VoIP, and EV-DO Rev. A for several years," said Randy Battat, President and CEO of Airvana. "The CDG's recognition is a great milestone toward our objective of deploying these mobile broadband technologies everywhere."

The industry and enterprise awards were presented by Perry LaForge, Executive Director of the CDG, and Greg Young, President of the CDG and CTO of Tata Teleservices. The nomination process was open to the general public through the CDG Web site, and final selection of the industry award winners was made by senior CDG executive members as well as representatives of industry associations and the trade media community.

"The CDG congratulates Airvana for helping make CDMA2000 the technology of choice for 3G services through their pioneering work in QoS and VoIP," said LaForge. "Airvana's infrastructure has helped many 3G operators around the globe sustain their competitive advantage by offering them superior broadband performance and services."
