The School Continues to Focus on Specific Industry Groups; Adds New Consumer Products and Retail Practice

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 7, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania announced the appointment of John Buggie as senior director of the School's Executive Education Division. Buggie was a partner and leader at several top management consulting firms, including Strategos, Ernst & Young, and A.T. Kearney, and was a marketing operating executive for two Fortune 500 global corporations in Europe and the United States. He now is responsible for leading and developing senior management programs for executives within the consumer products and retail industries.

The addition of the consumer products and retail practice continues Wharton's focus on industry groups. Wharton also maintains teams dedicated to the financial services industry; government agencies and educational associations; the professional services industry; the health care sector; and the manufacturing, technology, and energy industries. Each team is led by a senior director with approximately 20 years of experience in the industry.

"I am confident that John's corporate and business development experience with major global clients will be strong assets in leading executive education programs that deliver lasting impact," said Wharton's Vice Dean of Executive Education Jonathan Spector, director of the Aresty Institute of Executive Education. "He brings outstanding leadership skills and enthusiasm to his new role, and I look forward to his contributions to the School."

Buggie brings more than 20 years of experience working with the senior management of large global corporations on issues of strategy, organizational change, and marketing operations. His major clients were leading companies in the food and beverage and consumer goods industries. He also served large clients in the pharmaceutical, medical device, insurance, and technology sectors.

Before his career as a management consultant, Buggie was a successful marketing executive in the luxury goods industry at Brown Forman Corporation and LVMH Group (Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy) in Europe, Latin America, and Asia while managing profit and loss responsibility of up to $100 million dollars. While living in Europe, he co-founded two privately-held entrepreneurial start-ups, and helped shape them into viable ongoing businesses. He is fluent in English, French, and Portuguese.

Buggie holds an MBA from Wharton, a Master's degree in International Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and is the founder and chairman of the Lauder Institute Alumni Association.

His undergraduate degree is from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
