Xlibris Releases Sweet Decadence: Memories of an Era When Sweets Were Sweet -- New Picture Book Brings Back to Life the Classic Delicacies of the 19th Century

TORONTO, Dec. 7, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- A fantastic fusion of delicacies, history and heritage is about to amaze readers as Xlibris proudly releases Sweet Decadence: Memories of an Era When Sweets Were Sweet, the astonishing new picture cookbook about classic desserts written by author Kati Urszenyi.

With Sweet Decadence: Memories of an Era When Sweets Were Sweet, readers will discover a fascinating collection of some of the sophisticated desserts that were created and handed down through the author's family in an Austro/Hungarian upper middle class (landed gentry). Although the recipes cover a wide range of desserts; their unique feature is their base. Instead of the usual flour, the base of many of these recipes is nuts (including chestnuts, as it grew on trees in the Grandmother's yard). Many recipes also contain honey because an apiary was located next to their estate. Some of them actually are baked creams filled with cooked creams.

The first part of the book outlines ingredients and techniques, and the following chapters begin with a brief, sometimes humorous, look at life in the 19th century or the family today as it ties in with the particular sweet. Then the ingredients are given, followed by explicit instructions to create the dessert.

Not only does this book presents the means for creating recipes to tantalize the palate, but it also immerses the reader into an era when "sweets were sweet," and food were rich, an era opulent in sophistication and tradition. The author achieves this by mingling old-world history and family history with the recipes.

Richly-layered and attractive to read, Sweet Decadence: Memories of an Era When Sweets Were Sweet creates an antidote to high tech, stress, and Twinkies. It is a true celebration of cooking and at the same time it highlights a special marriage of both culture and taste like no other cookbook could.

The book will contain the formula for how to replace sugar with artificial sweetener combinations, thus making it fully adapted for diabetics. The fact, that the recipes use flour of nuts instead of wheat, is a further bonus for the diabetic. Extra attention was given to keep the recipes as close to their original form as possible.
