When Captain Harris and his special forces team slip through a time gate, they meet Nomi, a princess of the Teri tribe. The Teri are gripped with fear of a bloodbath. Nomi's father, the tribal chieftain, had a disturbing dream which he had interpreted by the tribal shaman. The shaman sees a terrible death at the hands of their most bitter rival, the Masai, unless Nomi weds the strong warrior from the North who defeated the Masai. Captain Harris is not the least bit interested in an ancient tribal war. He only intends to get back to the present and, at the same time, keep control of a brewing power struggle within his ranks. But the past has a link to the present. It is when he accepts Nomi that he finds the key to the problem he left behind in Nairobi.
Strike at the Heart is an engaging mix of science fiction, fantasy, and history. L.W. Berrie scoured scholastic materials and even had an African document translated for this novel. The culture of the Teri tribe which he describes in his book is based on an actual African people, the Watutsi. The story made Honorable Mention in the General Fiction category at the 2006 Hollywood Book Fair where one of the judges praises it as being "film worthy, and definitely worth checking out. About the Author
Born in Davenport, Iowa, L. W. Berrie was educated in California. After graduating from the California State University of Los Angeles with a degree in mathematics and science in 1966, he worked in the aerospace industry for twenty-three years. He went back to school in the Legal Assistance Program at the University of California at Irvine (UCI) and graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in 1992. He took additional writing courses at UCI to improve his skill as a writer. The UC library system and the 7th Special Forces Group at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, provided the research materials for the story.
