QLogic SANbox 9000 Core Switches and SANbox 5600 Stackable Switches Qualified with Mac OS X Tiger and Xserve RAID

SANbox 9000 Takes Less Space, Power and Cooling Than Any Director Switch Available Today

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Dec. 19, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), stackable switches and blade server switches, today announced that QLogic(r) SANbox(r) 9000 and SANbox 5600 Series of switches are now qualified for use with Mac OS X version 10.4 "Tiger," Mac OS X Server version 10.4 "Tiger," and Xsan, the storage area network (SAN) file system for Mac OS X. Designed to meet the rigorous price and performance demands of datacenters using Xserve and Xserve RAID, the SANbox 9000 is a new class of core switch that takes less rack space, power and cooling than any director switch available today. Designed to provide a low cost of entry and modular scalability, the SANbox 5600 Series is a stackable switch featuring high performance 4Gb and 10Gb Fibre Channel ports.

"Apple continues to set the standard for high-quality, easy-to-use information technology, especially with creative and rich media applications," said Jesse Parker, vice president and general manager, QLogic Switch Products Group. "By integrating the QLogic SANbox 9000 Series into their storage networks, Apple customers can say goodbye to complicated meshes of fixed port switches and hello to the advantages of director class switches -- without the hefty price tags."

"The combination of Mac OS X, Xsan and Xserve RAID provides unbeatable price performance for anyone looking to consolidate storage and offer simultaneous access to centralized data," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "The SANbox 9000 complements Apple's storage solution by providing a cost-effective solution for consolidating storage networking onto a high availability, high performance core switch."

SANbox 9000 Series Switches -- Designed to the Core for Open Systems

Finally, there's a new class of core switch that represents a sane alternative to quarter million dollar director switches. The SANbox 9000 is designed to the core for cost-sensitive, business-critical, open system environments that require ultra high density, blazing performance and intelligent switching for their data center core. The SANbox 9000 Series represents a number of industry firsts: a 4U chassis for a smaller footprint and cost-effective scalability, the simplicity and economies of customer replaceable units (CRUs) and a comprehensive set of core switch software management tools included as standard.

The highly scalable SANbox 9000 is a core switch with a dedicated 800Gb/s HyperStack(tm) connection between as many as two chassis modules. The high-port-count SANbox 9000 supports up to 256 ports in a dual chassis configuration. The intelligent SANbox 9000 offers in one chassis module: 8 slots for any mix of 4Gb or 10Gb Fibre Channel I/O Blades, iSCSI intelligent storage router I/O blades, FCIP intelligent storage router I/O blades, or storage services platform (SSP) blades. For high availability, the SANbox 9000 features redundant, hot-swap I/O, CPU, power supply and fan blades. And for comprehensive fabric management, the SANbox 9000 includes the powerful and easy-to-use Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007 for setting-up, monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting and servicing an unlimited number of large fabrics.
