Dr. Floyd Horn Named Chairman of Produce Safety and Security International Scientific Advisory Board

WASHINGTON, Dec. 28, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Distinguished food safety and agricultural security research expert and former Administrator of the Department of Agriculture's principal internal research arm, the Agricultural Research Service, Dr. Floyd P. Horn, has been named as Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board for Produce Safety and Security International, Inc. (PSI) (Pink Sheets:PDSC) -- a leading food safety and sanitation technology company.

"PSI is honored to have someone of Dr. Horn's expertise and background help advise us on food safety and security issues," said Bill Karney, CEO of Produce Safety and Security International, Inc. "His oversight of ARS, the research agency at USDA with primary responsibility to meet the information and technology needs of both the Food Safety and Inspection Service and the Food and Drug Administration, bodes well for the most effective and efficient application of PSI's products and science-based technologies. Current events have shown what can happen when food is not produced or handled properly. The addition of Dr. Horn to the PSI team is very timely."

"Certainly the safety and security of the U.S. food supply is of the highest priority. Americans are accustomed to high-quality, safe and reliable foods of all types from many sources; and they expect to have food available at a reasonable price. Produce Safety and Security International provides a selection of technologies that can most certainly contribute to protecting consumers and assuring the safety of many food products," said Dr. Horn. "I worry about not only the accidental contamination of food, but the potential for intentional tainting of food to threaten the U.S. consumer. Security of the food supply is and should be an integral part of achieving homeland security."

From December 2001 to June 2002, Dr. Horn was Director of Food, Agriculture and Water Security at the White House Office of Homeland Security, a newly formed unit established within the Executive Office of the President at the White House.
