TASER Device Ends Knife-Wielding Brawl


WASHINGTON, Dec. 29, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to reports from the Miami Herald, a patrol officer outside an apartment complex at 549 Michigan Ave. in South Beach Thursday afternoon soon found herself breaking up an armed and potentially deadly fight. The unidentified officer found a man attacking another, his throat slashed with a fish-filleting knife, in the backyard of the complex. Quickly deploying her TASER device, the officer was able to stop the attacker and rush both men to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where one man remains in critical condition.

Detectives are now trying to determine if the attacker was trying to defend himself. Police said the knife-wielding man received wounds to his face and his victim had a crowbar. Neighbors described the suspected attacker as a junkie who hung around the neighborhood.
