Northrop Grumman, Defense Department Begin Deployment of Health Readiness System to National Nuclear Security Administration

RESTON, Va., Jan. 4, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The U.S. Department of Defense recently began deployment within the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) of a web-based health-information system, designed and developed by Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC), to enhance occupational healthcare services and reduce health threats to military and civilian personnel.

The NNSA is a semi-autonomous organization within the Department of Energy.

The Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene (DOEHRS-IH) was created to support the collection, storage and analysis of information regarding occupational exposures, workplace environmental monitoring, personal protective equipment usage, work practices and employee health-hazard educational data.

NNSA plans to utilize DOEHRS-IH at its Nevada test site to assist in meeting employee protection requirements and provide a web-based system for managing industrial hygiene records. DOEHRS-IH will replace several disparate databases currently in use with an enterprise solution that will improve efficiency and productivity. Fielding and training will commence on Jan. 16 and be completed by Feb. 1.

DOEHRS-IH supports the Force Health Protection Program mandated by the president in 1997. DOEHRS-IH is managed by the Resources Information Technology Program Office (RITPO), within the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs.

Northrop Grumman began work on DOEHRS-IH in 2002, and in September 2006, the RITPO awarded the company a contract to deploy DOEHRS-IH within the NNSA.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.
