TechnoCom, Raytheon and Econolite Hold Demonstrations On Vehicle Infrastructure Integration Technology At CES

Vehicle Infrastructure Integration Technology Demonstrations Highlight Smart Vehicles and Intelligent Intersection

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 8, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TechnoCom Corporation (www.technocom-wireless.com), a leading provider of solutions to enable wireless location services and assure their ongoing performance, Raytheon and Econolite today announced that they will be holding demonstrations at the Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII) Technology Showcase located on the LVCC Gold Lot at CES in Las Vegas, Jan. 8-11, 2007. Connexis, ITS America and the U.S. Department of Transportation will be sponsoring the demonstration.

The showcase presents a series of VII demonstrations highlighting the capabilities of technologies and the interoperability of 5.9 GHz Dedicated Short Range Communications (DSRC) radios. The demonstrations emphasize traffic safety and traveler information, including wireless communications and intelligent processing installed in vehicles and roadside equipment.

VII technology demonstrates vehicles transmitting traffic and road condition information from an Intelligent Intersection(tm). This joint demonstration from TechnoCom, Raytheon and Econolite will include:

Traffic Signal Violation Warning. An Intelligent Intersection sends instantaneous traffic signal information to an approaching vehicle. The vehicle collects this data and uses it to determine the risk of an unsafe passage based on the vehicle position and speed. When needed, the vehicle delivers advisories cueing the driver to corrective actions to reduce the risk of intersection collisions.

Public Safety Vehicle Priority Signal Activation. A Public Safety vehicle issues a request to the intersection for signal priority. The traffic signal state is changed if appropriate, allowing the vehicle fast, safe passage through the intersection.

In-Vehicle Signing. Dynamic road condition data is received from roadside equipment. Audible driver advisories are presented to the driver as the vehicle approaches an active work zone, alerting the driver to a potentially dangerous situation.

The VII technology demonstrations are a cooperative effort between TechnoCom, Raytheon and Econolite. TechnoCom is providing its Multiband Configurable Networking Unit (MCNU) platform to interface the vehicle with the roadside, as well as software to interface to the Intelligent Intersection equipment. Econolite is providing the Intelligent Intersection equipment (including the traffic signal controller and associated sensors and processing) used in all demonstrations. Raytheon is providing vehicle and roadside system engineering and integration services as well as application software.

"TechnoCom has been working very closely with Raytheon and Econolite to develop this demo that will bring next-generation safety application to fruition," said Masoud Motamedi, president for TechnoCom. "TechnoCom's core technology provides the foundation that allows vehicles to communicate with the roadside and brings the value of 5.9 DSRC technology to a new level."

"The innovation of Raytheon's technology will enhance a driver's experience and give peace of mind not just to individuals but to emergency personnel," said Michael Prout, President of Raytheon's Highway Traffic Management Systems. "Raytheon is happy to work with TechnoCom and Econolite to demonstrate these technologies that will allow municipalities to focus on the job at hand, and not distractions on the road."

"Econolite's technology powers the intelligent intersections for this CES demonstration, making this life saving technology available today," said Frank Provenzano, Director New Business Development of Econolite. "Working with companies such as TechnoCom and Raytheon enables our technology to provide a safer environment, which is a key element of Econolite's vision."
