The Wall Street Journal Launches Brand Campaign Demonstrating How Its Content Has Inspired Successful Individuals

Campaign Profiles Life Journeys of Sheryl Crow, Tiki Barber, Alice Waters, Kenneth Cole

NEW YORK, Feb. 6, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Wall Street Journal today launched its first brand advertising campaign in a decade. Entitled "Every journey needs a Journal," the campaign features the life journeys of icons in sports, entertainment, business and the arts, and illustrates how the Journal educated, inspired and influenced each of them on their road to success.

The advertising will run in a broad array of print and online media including magazines such as Sports Illustrated, People, Esquire, Time, Newsweek, and SmartMoney, Web sites such as Yahoo! and AOL, and major metropolitan newspapers including the Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, and Washington Post.

"The Wall Street Journal campaign creatively illustrates the life journeys of a diverse group of people who are icons in their fields-- whether in sports, entertainment, business or the arts---and shows how stories in the Journal have relevance to their lives," said Ann Marks, chief marketing officer for Dow Jones & Company. "The individual journeys are unique, often surprising and truly inspiring."

The campaign was developed by the mcgarrybowen advertising agency under the direction of creative director Gordon Bowen. Original portraits were take by the world renowned photographer, Platon, and the photos are displayed alongside hand-drawn "life journeys" incorporating articles from the Journal.

"The combination of individual journeys and intimate portraits incites our natural curiosity and makes the lives of even the most successful people both relevant and aspirational," said Mr. Bowen. "The articles that are showcased confirm how the Journal provides insight, ideas and inspiration for our lives."

Celebrities in the campaign include: Tiki Barber, former running back for the New York Giants; Jake Burton, founder and chairman of Burton Snowboards; Kenneth Cole of Kenneth Cole Productions, Inc.; Sheryl Crow, singer and songwriter; Oscar De La Hoya, the Olympic Gold Medal boxer and head of Golden Boy Promotions; Steven Levitt, University of Chicago professor and co-author of Freakonomics; Maya Lin, architect and designer of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.; David Neeleman, CEO of JetBlue; Paul Teutel Sr., star of the reality TV series American Chopper; and Alice Waters, world-famous chef, founder of Chez Panisse restaurant in Berkeley, CA, and healthy foods advocate.

The advertising campaign includes online banner ads and an interactive Web site developed by integrated marketing firm T3 that showcases videos of many of the celebrities. The Web site, www.journey.wsj.com, offers readers the opportunity to share their journeys and describe how the Journal influenced them. All submissions will be considered for possible inclusion in later versions of the campaign.
