BALTIMORE, Feb. 15, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract to integrate its AN/APN-241 low-power color weather and navigation radar on the C-295 aircraft for the Portuguese Air Force (PAF).
The contract was awarded by European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company -- Construcciones Aeronauticas SA (CASA).
"This contract provides the Portuguese Air Force with a C-295 aircraft that meets their stringent all-weather operational performance requirements," said Andrew Wesolowski, director of Northrop Grumman's Combat Air Delivery Systems programs. "The AN/APN-241 provides discriminating performance capabilities needed for the light transport aircraft crew to accomplish strategic or tactical missions in a dynamic environment," he said.
As part of the contract, Northrop Grumman is also providing the operational flight program software to meet PAF requirements for commonality with existing C-130 radar hardware, reducing additional logistics and supply requirements.
Work will be performed by the company's Electronic Systems sector in Norwalk, Conn. and Baltimore.
