San Diego County Regional Airport Authority Selects Healthyroads Coaching for Weight Management and Tobacco Cessation, Offers 'Fitness Focus' Incentives

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Healthyroads, Inc., the wellness subsidiary of leading personal health improvement company American Specialty Health (ASH), has been chosen by the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority to provide the Healthyroads Coaching Programs for Weight Management, Tobacco Cessation, and Healthy Living to a select group of the transportation agency's 500 employees.

Through these programs, Healthyroads' registered dietitians, certified personal trainers, registered nurses, and other health professionals provide telephone-based motivational and goal-oriented coaching to help members make better nutrition, exercise, and stress management choices. A variety of online tools providing e-communication and health status trackers help members work toward their individual health and wellness goals.

"This pilot program has already met with great success, and the Airport Authority has employed unique incentives and marketing promotions to drive employee participation," noted Brenda Jensen, director of Healthyroads wellness consulting services. "As part of the agency's 'Fitness Focus' program, employees can collect gift-certificate points for participating in various health improvement activities, such as working out or attending onsite lunchtime learning classes led by Healthyroads. Employees can also take part in Healthyroads' Get Healthy! National Awards Program -- and maybe win a shopping spree or a new car for taking charge of their health."

"By partnering with Healthyroads, the Airport Authority has taken an important step toward improving employee health over the long term," said George DeVries, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of ASH. "We applaud the creative approach that this agency has taken in implementing the Healthyroads Coaching Programs and in helping its employees lead healthier, more active lives."
