9th Annual "College-for-a-Day: Building the Next Generation of Scientists and Community Leaders"

 WHAT:  9th Annual "College-for-a-Day: Building the Next Generation of
        Scientists and Community Leaders", for 350 middle school
        students from northeast Houston. The Missouri City Chapter of
        The Links, Inc., Aspiring Youth, Houston, and Texas Southern
        University have partnered to provide the day-long college
        experience for the students.

 WHEN:  Saturday, March 3, 2007, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

 WHERE: Texas Southern University Campus, Houston, Texas 77004
        New Science Building
        (on Ennis Street between Wheeler and Cleburne Avenues)

 WHO:   Program participants include

 WHY:   There is a critical need to motivate middle school age at-risk
        students to begin planning for admittance to and success at a
        four-year university. The students will learn about
        college-track course requirements, strategies for accessing
        financial aid, lifestyle adjustments and exciting careers in
        the S.T.E.M. fields - from working at NASA, to being a
        television weatherman, to being a harbor pilot - by means of
        interactive experiences with professionals. Along with hearing
        from these professionals, the students will also hear from
        Texas Southern University students about "the real deal" on
        college life and from prominent community leaders and TSU
        official about the need to become involved in their
        communities.
