BETHPAGE, N.Y., Feb. 27, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Applications are now being accepted for the second annual Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) Engineering Scholarship Program. The scholarship provides five $10,000 scholarships to Long Island high school seniors who plan to major in aerospace-related engineering, applied mathematics or computer science in college.
Each scholarship will be worth $2,500 per year per student over four years. The scholarship competition is open to all high school seniors attending public or accredited private schools in New York's Nassau and Suffolk counties. In addition to the monetary award, scholarship winners will be eligible for summer internships at Northrop Grumman following their freshman, sophomore and junior years.
The 2006 Scholarship recipients were:
* Michael Colasuono, West Hempstead, N.Y.; a 2006 graduate
of Kellenberg Memorial High School and currently a student
at Villanova University.
* Ian Czekala, Miller Place, N.Y; a 2006 graduate of Rocky
Point High School who is now at the University of Virginia.
* Kristie D'Ambrosio, Wantagh, N.Y.; a 2006 graduate of
Wantagh High School who attends the Massachusetts Institute
of Technology.
* Cindy True, Deer Park, N.Y; a 2006 Deer Park High School
graduate who is a student at Columbia University.
* Lance Shapiro, Lloyd Harbor, N.Y.; a 2006 graduate of
Cold Spring Harbor High School who now attends the
University of Virginia.

"Not only did they have impressive accomplishments in math and science, but they were also involved in a wide range of extracurricular and community activities. Applicants must be chosen by their schools, and the applications must be submitted by a school's guidance office or related department.
To be eligible, students must attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in the fall of 2007 and enroll in an engineering program, including aerospace, electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering, applied math/statistics, or computer science. Each applicant must also be in the top 10 percent of his or her class and have an SAT score of at least 1,900 (700 Math, 600 Critical Reading, 600 Writing) or ACT score of 28 (with Math and Science scores of 30 or better).
The application deadline is March 9. Applications will be evaluated by a Northrop Grumman committee and the winners announced at the end of April. Recipients must maintain a 3.0 GPA and remain full-time in an approved program to maintain their scholarship eligibility.
