CDG Congratulates TELMEX On Its Deployment of CDMA450

CDMA450 Will Provide Universal Telephone Service to Thousands of Citizens Who Live in the Rural Areas of Mexico

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 28, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) (www.cdg.org) today congratulated TELMEX on using its state-of-the-art CDMA450 network to offer basic telephone services to thousands of citizens who live in the marginalized communities of Mexico. As part of Mexico's Fund for Social Coverage, the IP-based CDMA450 public network is expected to cover more than 7,225 localities in 304 local areas over the next three years. Besides offering basic telephony over large geographic areas using the 450 MHz frequency band, the advanced CDMA2000(r) network can also provide high-speed Internet access, short message service, fax, voice mail, 3-party calling, conference calls, long distance, public telephone and emergency call services.

"The CDG congratulates Mexico on its commitment to provide its citizens with digital connectivity, and TELMEX on its decision to use CDMA450 to meet this universal service obligation," stated Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "CDMA450 has proven to be a technically and commercially viable mainstream solution for providing affordable telephony and broadband Internet access to enterprises, small businesses and consumers in many developing and underserved markets worldwide."

After considering several technology options, CDMA450 proved to be the best and most cost-effective option to provide fixed wireless telephony and Internet access to Mexico's rural markets. By extending coverage using an IP-based transmission network and CDMA2000 technology in the 450 MHz frequency band, CDMA450 is able to provide affordable telephone service to low revenue areas. The state-of-the-art CDMA450 network will help sustain Mexico's social commitment towards connecting its citizens to the world of digital communications.

CDMA450 offers several performance and economic advantages that are enabled by its spectral efficiency (lower cost per voice or data packet), extended coverage area (fewer cell sites), IP-based transmission network (faster deployments and lower operating costs), IP and legacy core network interfaces (greater network scalability), adjacent or discrete macro, micro, pico, or indoor cell sites (improved network flexibility), and large economies of scale (greater selection of entry-level devices).
