Caran acquires Saab Combitech's operations in Gothenburg and Trollhättan

Caran, part of the LogicaCMG Group, has signed an agreement to acquire Saab Combitech's operations in Gothenburg and Trollhättan. The acquired operations, which focus primarily on the development of advanced electronics and software for the automotive industry, currently have about 70 employees. The acquisition is part of Caran's ongoing investment in this area and, including today's transaction, the company will have nearly 200 consultants within the electricity, electronics and embedded systems sectors.

“Caran has enjoyed close relations with the Swedish and international automotive industry for many years. Electronics, software and embedded systems are becoming an increasingly important part of modern vehicle design, which is why Caran has prioritized this area,” says Caran's president Mats Rogbrandt. “Within Caran, we are expecting to see substantial technique advantages with today's transaction in combination with the investments we are currently making in embedded systems in the Stockholm region.”

At the same time, WM-data/Caran and Saab have reached an agreement to change the ownership structure of the two jointly owned companies, Caran Saab Engineering AB and A2 Acoustics AB.

Caran Saab Engineering AB was founded jointly by Caran and Saab in 2001. The operations of the company, which has some 150 employees, focus on development, design and calculation operations on behalf of customers within the aviation industry. An agreement has now been signed whereby Caran will transfer its 50% participation in Caran Saab Engineering AB to Saab and the operations will become 100% owned by Saab.

In 2001 Caran acquired 60% of the Saab owned company A2 Acoustics AB. Today, this company has ten employees and delivers leading solutions to improve noise and vibration levels to customers within the automotive and aviation industry. An agreement has now been signed whereby Saab will transfer its 40% participation in A2 Acoustics AB to Caran and the operations will become 100% owned by Caran.

These transactions are expected to be completed at the beginning of April, subject to the necessary approvals being obtained from the competition authorities concerned.
