Scantron Assessment Solution Chosen by Calcasieu Parish Public Schools for District-Wide Implementation

District Will Implement Achievement Series and Performance Series to Provide Immediate Access to Data to Impact Instruction

IRVINE, Calif., March 1, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Calcasieu Parish Public Schools (CPPS), Louisiana's sixth-largest school districted, has selected Scantron's Achievement Series(tm) and Performance Series(tm) to provide a unique combination of standards-based formative assessment and computer-adaptive diagnostic testing for third through 10th grade students, Scantron Corporation announced today.

Scantron(r) is a leading provider of assessment software and survey solutions for the K-12 and higher education markets, with more than 80% of all schools in the United States using at least one of its products or services.

Located in Lake Charles, CPPS serves more than 31,000 students in 59 schools. CPPS will use Scantron's Performance Series with its special education and general populations to diagnose student placement and learning needs. Achievement Series, Scantron's web-based formative testing solution, will provide CPPS educators with the ability to create and administer standards-based formative assessments to monitor student progress and make informed instructional decisions to improve student achievement.

"Teachers have to know from the beginning where each student stands in terms of content knowledge. The Scantron system allows us to quickly and accurately secure that information, so teachers can implement a program of informed instruction for each student," said Dr. Mary-Lou Caldarera, assessment supervisor for CPPS. "Our teachers are very excited to have data that will help them have a huge impact both now and into the future. We plan to collect and analyze longitudinal data across the years to measure and compare year-to-year growth. With a system this comprehensive and easy, there's no end to the possibilities."

CPPS will begin using Performance Series this spring and roll out Achievement Series in the 2007-08 school year.

"Superintendent Wayne Savoy in Calcasieu Parish has a terrific vision for realizing the vast potential of a solution that combines formative and benchmark assessments," said Scantron President Tim Loomer. "Scantron is honored to be part of this program and dedicated to helping them achieve their goals."
