ADVA Optical Networking Delivers Next-Generation Intelligent Ethernet Product

New FSP 150 Family Member Enhances Universal Service Demarcation Capability to Decrease Carriers' Capital Expenditure and Operating Costs

MAHWAH, N.J. and MARTINSRIED/MUNICH, Germany, March 6, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- ADVA Optical Networking today announced that it has launched the latest member of its market-leading FSP 150 family of intelligent Ethernet access products - the FSP 150CCf-825. This new product is one of the world's first carrier-class next-generation Ethernet access solutions, delivering previously unattainable levels of service demarcation, strict monitoring of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and advanced remote Operations, Administration and Maintenance (OAM). Featuring the latest Etherjack(r) technology, the FSP 150CCf will become the flagship member of the FSP 150 family and has already been selected for deployment in BT's 21st Century Network (21CN).

The enhanced FSP 150CCf offers service providers an Ethernet access product that can inter-work seamlessly with a number of core technologies, including Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) switching, Provider Backbone Bridging-Traffic Engineering (PBB-TE) and Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS). A service-agnostic approach such as this enables universal service demarcation at the customer premise, providing demarcation regardless of the network transport technology being used. Universal demarcation will have a significant impact on service providers' capital expenditures (CAPEX), enabling them to use one demarcation technology for multiple network signals, whether this be Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)/Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH), MPLS or other.

"The Ethernet access market is in a period of dramatic change and we expect significant growth during the next several years," explained Erin Dunne, director of research services at Vertical Systems Group. "As service providers seek to migrate from legacy technologies, Ethernet is poised to be the dominant access method for the next decade. Carrier-class service demarcation, remote OAM and transport scalability are required for mass market deployment. ADVA Optical Networking's FSP 150CCf-825 addresses each of these areas with carrier-class functionality."

The FSP 150 family improves the delivery and reliability of differentiated carrier Ethernet services while reducing complexity and ensuring operational simplicity. This is demonstrated by optional network protection capabilities and with its advanced OAM functionality that enables a service provider to remotely monitor, test, diagnose and resolve network issues without mobilizing expensive truck rolls and engineers. Remote fault resolution will have a dramatic effect on a carrier's operating costs (OPEX), allowing IT mangers to drive expenditures down and retain greater control of their budgets.

"The FSP 150CCf-825 represents an innovation in Ethernet access solutions," commented Brian P. McCann, ADVA Optical Networking's chief marketing and strategy officer. "With this product we are able to deliver the most advanced Carrier Ethernet service demarcation available on the market today and thereby remove the final barriers for service providers to move from legacy technologies. The FSP 150CCf is a true next-generation platform that no other equipment vendor can provide today."

Every member of the FSP 150 family is compliant with all standard Institute of Electronics and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) specifications, including the latest 802.3ah (Ethernet in the First Mile) and 802.1ag (Connectivity Fault Management) specifications. It features compliance with the new ITU-T Y.1731 standard for advanced Ethernet OAM and has also been rigorously designed for Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) compliance.
