Tyson Re-launches Oven Roasted Chicken Line

Product Improvements, No-Preservative Emphasis to Broaden Customer Base

SPRINGDALE, Ark., March 14, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Tyson Foods, Inc. (NYSE:TSN) is strengthening its position as the number one brand in the refrigerated convenience meats category by improving and re-launching its popular Tyson(r) Oven Roasted Chicken, company officials reported today.

Tyson has implemented product and packaging improvements in the Oven Roasted line, which company officials believe will help them reach an even larger customer base. The new Oven Roasted products, which received strong ratings from consumers in pre-market testing, contain no preservatives and come in a unique vacuum sealed package.

"Our Oven Roasted Chicken has been the cornerstone of our refrigerated, cooked meats business for 20 years because consumers love the way this slow roasted product tastes," said Rob DeMartini, group vice president of Consumer Products for Tyson Foods. "Now we're making this line even better with new, more convenient packaging, improved food safety, extended shelf-life, increased customer support and improved merchandising."

The improvements include new "Easy Peel" packaging with graphics noting that the product is preservative free and vacuum sealed for freshness. The new packaging also includes finished product photography to increase appetite appeal and a "Heat 'N Eat Entrees" graphic to emphasize the easy preparation.

Another feature of the improved product line is the use of pasteurization. This post-packaging technology enhances food safety while substantially increasing the shelf-life of the product from the previous 14 day limit to 45 days.

"The extended shelf life will significantly reduce shrink and markdowns and improve net profits for retailers," DeMartini said. "In addition, the new vertical packaging format maximizes shelf space, allowing 25 to 35 percent more facings."

Tyson will also help retailers reach higher profits by providing consumer support through a national advertising campaign aimed at increasing product awareness.

Tyson's Oven Roasted line includes original and lemon pepper whole chickens, new multi-serve BBQ breast halves, hand-filleted boneless skinless breasts, breast halves, hot and spicy wings, drumsticks and thighs. The products can be heated and ready to eat in a matter of minutes.

"We realize 'convenience' is the number one factor in determining what the consumer prepares for dinner," DeMartini said. "Our improved line of oven roasted chicken provides consumers with a fast and flexible meal solution that's nutritious and convenient, without sacrificing taste."

The improved Tyson Oven Roasted Chicken was one of the "Top Ten New Product Scans" at the recent National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) show. Tyson's first time at the NACS show proved to be a winner when the Oven Roasted Chicken line was rated as one of the best new products.

"I am excited about the recognition of Tyson Oven Roasted in a new channel and the opportunity to provide a proven product line to more consumers," said DeMartini.
