U-Haul Ranks Austin, Texas and Des Moines, Iowa as Top 2006 Growth Cities

PHOENIX, March 14, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- U-Haul, celebrating more than 60 years of serving the do-it-yourself household moving industry, today released results of the U-Haul National Migration Trend Report that reflects the nation's top growth areas for families who moved during 2006. The 2006 Top Growth Cities Report indicates that for cities with more than 10,000 families moving, Austin, Texas, has the highest percentage of growth for the second year in a row, with 8.15 percent more families moving into the area than out. For cities with 5,000-10,000 families moving, Des Moines, Iowa had the highest percentage of growth, with 14.17 percent.

"The report, reflective of growth patterns of the United States during 2006, was compiled based on nationwide trends in cities of all sizes and reflects communities with more than 5,000 families moving in or out of the area," said John "J.T." Taylor, U-Haul president. "Growth cities were then determined by calculating the percentage of inbound moves vs. outbound moves for each area."

The 2006 Top Growth Cities Report was compiled from more than 1.62 million U-Haul transactions between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2006. A complete copy of the National Migration Trend Report follows.

Since 1945, U-Haul has been the undisputed choice for the do-it-yourself mover, with a network of more than 15,400 locations in all 50 United States and 10 Canadian provinces.

U-Haul has the largest truck rental fleet in the world, with more than 93,000 trucks, 80,675 trailers and 33,500 towing devices. U-Haul also has been a leader in the storage industry since 1974, with more than 380,000 rooms and more than 33.5 million square feet of storage space at more than 1,050 owned and managed facilities throughout North America. U-Haul is the consumer's number one choice as the largest installer of permanent trailer hitches in the automotive aftermarket industry, and is the largest distributor of propane across North America.

Note to editors: The annual mileage of North American U-Haul trucks would move a family to the moon and back more than seven times per day, every day of the year.
