Call for Candidates: Mobile Entertainment Forum Launches Americas Board Elections

LONDON, March 19, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The Mobile Entertainment Forum has today called for candidates to stand for election to the prestigious MEF Americas board. The three successful applicants at the vote on March 27 at CTIA Wireless will join existing board members Glu Mobile, Motorola, Sprint, and TAG Strategic for a two-year board position.

Since its launch in 2002, MEF Americas has established itself as the thought leader and catalyst for working with Hollywood and the mobile industry to fulfill the promise of the mobile entertainment market. According to Ovum, the mobile entertainment industry including music, games, wireless personalization, wireless TV and video, and wireless alerts is expected to rise from $4.5 billion in 2006 to nearly $6.1 in 2008. The incoming board will be responsible for guiding the mobile entertainment industry as it and the MEF continue to grow rapidly with over 130 members reaching beyond the mobile industry to include major record labels, film studios and content owners.

The new board will be charged with localizing global initiatives, such as mobile communities, quality of experience and ad-funded mobile entertainment, as well as actively lobbying on U.S.-centric issues and launching an educational program on mobile entertainment. As part of the current MEF Americas' work to highlight the importance of sharing mobile experiences to benefit local markets, it will be hosting a panel on international mobile trends at ME Live! prior to CTIA featuring global industry leaders from Alcatel-Lucent, Amobee, Hungama, Buongiorno, Jamba, and mBlox. This will examine the market realities, successes and failures for mobile entertainment to identify best practices common to all regions.

Patrick Parodi, MEF Global Chair, commented: "The global mobile entertainment industry currently exceeds $20bn -- these are exciting times. MEF provides a truly global platform to lead opinion on issues at the heart of the American market. The opportunities for the incoming board to affect change for our members across all sectors of the mobile entertainment ecosystem are massive."

The newly elected board will work in conjunction with the established MEF Asia, MEF Europe and MEF Global boards to boost local membership value and while providing an international voice for local members.

All full MEF members are able to vote in the elections to choose their preferred candidates. The newly elected board will then vote for its Chair and Vice-Chair to hold the office for the coming year.

To run for a seat at the annual general meeting, please submit a photo and brief campaign statement (200 words max) to Karen@m-e-f.org

Only full members of MEF are eligible as candidates. An application to join MEF is available at http://www.m-e-f.org.
