Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd awarded certifications in compliance with the latest ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards


Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd, a subsidiary of JSC Ventspils nafta, is awarded
the latest certifications in compliance with the requirements of the Quality
Management Standard ISO 9001:2000 and the Environmental Management Standard ISO
14001:2004. The certification that the terminal meets the abovementioned
standards came into effect on 1 March 2007, and it was issued by the
international organization for certification Bureau Veritas Certification. 

The operation of terminal owned by JSC Ventspils nafta was certified under
requirements of the International Quality Management Standard ISO 9001 and the
Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001 already in 2000 and 2004. In 2006,
the environmental management system of Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd was
improved under the latest provisions of ISO 14001:2004 reviewing and improving
quality and environmental processes of the company, establishing new criteria
for assessment of environmental aspects, studying environmental aspects in all
processes of terminal's operation and involving employees in each concrete
process, etc. In 2007, recertification of the terminal meeting all requirements
of ISO standards was necessary for the previous term of certification (three
years) had expired. 

Quality and environmental management systems at Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd
are being developed all the time both in relation to the latest environmental
legal provisions and the new technological processes in the company, for
instance, in regard to receiving, storage and transshipment of diesel petrol
delivered by oil product pipeline, which was started this year. Quality and
environmental management system acknowledges the ability of Ventspils nafta
termināls Ltd to guarantee safe, effective and environment-friendly transit
services. A project within the environmental management programme of Ventspils
nafta termināls Ltd for 2007, for instance, provides for maintenance of
security level of technological processes, improvement of the existing
environment monitoring system, purification and improvements of polluted areas,
etc. 

ISO is based on principles of voluntary participation, and implementation and
operation of this system directly depends on participation of employees
representing all levels. The International Quality Management Standard ISO 9001
is related to the way of organizing work in a company and specifies
requirements, meeting of which guarantees conformance of services rendered by
the company with appropriate quality. 

The goal of the International Environmental Management Standard ISO 14001 is
creation of an effective environmental management system in a company ensuring
systematic and planned solution of environmental issues assuring company's
understanding of environmental problems and determination to solve them, as
well as demonstrating its conformance with high environmental standards. 

Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd is a company of JSC Ventspils nafta Group
rendering transit services - receiving of oil and diesel petrol delivered by
pipelines, as well as receiving, storage and transshipment of diesel petrol,
car petrol and other petroleum product cargos delivered by railway or sea. 51%
of company's shares are owned by JSC Ventspils nafta, but 49% belong to Euromin
Holdings (Cyprus) Limited, a subsidiary of the international oil and gas
transportation consortium Vitol. 

Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd is the largest of such companies in the region.
Its crude oil and petroleum product shore-tank farm reaches 1.2 million cubic
meters, and it has no analogues among similar companies in the nearest
countries.
