Resume: The plant biotech company Aresa has been granted patents in South Africa
and in Singapore on the system behind the landmine detecting plant, RedDetect™.

Patent grant.

Aresa has today received notification that the patent authorities in South
Africa and in Singapore has granted a patent in respect of “Reporter system for
plants”, patent No. 2004/9782 in South Africa and patent No. 108113 in
Singapore.

The patent covers the system behind the landmine detecting plant, RedDetect™, as
well as detection and remediation of pollutants in soil.

The patent abstract is as follows:

”A reporter system capable of giving rise to a directly monitorable phenotypic
trait in a plant, in the presence of an outer stimulus such as for example a
pollutant, is provided. The system optionally also has the ability to remediate
soil. Genetically modified plants comprising said reporter system and optionally
the remediation capability, a process for detection of soil pollution and
optionally for bioremediating soil by employing said genetically modified
plants, as well as the use of genetically modified plants for monitoring soil
pollution and optionally for bioremediating soil are also provided.”

“The granting of these patents is yet another verification of the strength of
the technology behind the landmine detecting plant, RedDetect™”, says Chief
Scientific Officer and Founder of Aresa, Carsten Meier.

CSO, Carsten Meier and has origins from the Institute of Molecular Biology at
Copenhagen University.

Aresa has developed two plant based technology platforms, BioSensor for the
detection of substances in soil, hereunder evaporation of explosives from
landmines; and BioPharma, a tool for the optimisation and production of
antibodies and proteins in plants.
