Marygrove College Features Religious Musical Traditions in Spring Choral Concert April 22

DETROIT, March 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Marygrove College will stage its annual spring choral concert on Sunday, April 22, 2007, at 4 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Chapel of the Madame Cadillac Building. The concert is free and open to the public.

Titled "Sacred Traditions," the concert will include Faure's popular Requiem and other music from Catholic, Jewish, Protestant and Anglican religious traditions. The Marygrove College Chorale will be joined by members of the Hartford Memorial Baptist Church Choir, along with organist Joanne Rickards Clark, harpist Lydia Cleaver and baritone Carl Clendenning. The Marygrove Handbell Ensemble will also perform.

The concert is under the direction of Marygrove music faculty member Ellen Duncan. "A presentation of sacred music from various traditions," said Duncan, "meshes well with our Sacred Music degree, which prepares musicians to serve as leaders in Metro-area houses of worship. We're excited that the Requiem will feature not only student singers, but faculty, alumni, staff and guest singers from Hartford, accompanied by harp and our historic 1928 Casavant organ."

This year, Marygrove will celebrate the inauguration of its 8th president, Dr. David Fike. The "Sacred Traditions" Spring Choral Concert has been designated an Inaugural Event.
