Entropic Passes Five Million C.Link Chipset Shipment Mark For Connected Home Entertainment

SAN DIEGO, March 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic is acknowledging shipment of its five millionth c.LINK(tm) chipset that enables the delivery of digital video and entertainment in and around the home using existing coaxial cabling.

"We are delighted to reach this important milestone," said Patrick Henry, Entropic President and CEO. "Our accelerating shipment ramp is yet another sign of market acceptance of the superiority of coaxial cable and c.LINK in delivering digital entertainment around the home.

"This achievement also further establishes MoCA as the defacto standard on coax as the home entertainment network backbone."

A variety of products such as DVR-based and client-side set top boxes, broadband home routers, residential gateways, Ethernet to coax bridges and optical network termination (ONTs) units are now available enabling seamless integration with any networking topology offered by telephone, cable and satellite service providers and network managers.

According to iSuppli, the home networking market is forecasted to grow to 500 million nodes shipped per year of both wireless and wired technologies by 2010. Home networking nodes running over existing coax cabling in the home is expected to account for 75 million of these nodes.

"Five million units is without question validation that the connected home market is here and provides compelling value to operators and consumers alike," said Steve Rago, principal analyst, iSuppli.

Verizon's FiOS TV in the U.S. and Jupiter Communications (J:COM) in Japan are two of the high profile operators deploying c.LINK, while several undisclosed others are in field trials and early deployment.

2Wire, Actiontec, Alcatel, Foxconn, Linksys, Motorola, Mototech, Panasonic, Scientific Atlanta, Tellabs and Westell are all using c.LINK in their various home networking or home access products.

c.LINK operates in the 800 - 1500 Mhz frequency range allowing complete co-existence with other coax-based services in use when c.LINK based products are incorporated into a home entertainment network. The underlying technology is seamless and invisible to the consumer, and no new wires or truck rolls are required.

Entropic is a founding member of the Multimedia over Coax Alliance (MoCA(tm)), www.mocalliance.org, an open industry initiative promoting delivery of video and entertainment over coax, ensuring interoperability with member products and coexistence with other delivery mediums, under a RAND (reasonable and non-discriminatory) licensing environment.
