RESTON, Va., March 29, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has received SAFETY Act certification and designation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for three leading anti-terrorism technologies.
The Support Anti-terrorism by Fostering Effective Technologies Act of 2002, also known as the SAFETY Act, was passed to encourage the development and deployment of technologies that could significantly reduce the risks or effects of terrorist events. The law limits liability exposure to companies in the event of a terrorist attack.
The Northrop Grumman-developed technologies now certified, designated and qualified by DHS are System Engineering, Design and Integration (SEDI) services for integrated detection systems, Integrated Security Services (ISS) and the Tactical Automated Security System (TASS).
"These technologies can provide homeland security solutions for the protection of critical infrastructure in both the public and private sectors," said Gerald Buckwalter, Northrop Grumman's vice president of Homeland Security.
SEDI services are designed to non-intrusively inspect cargo, vehicles, vessels and other conveyances to detect radiological and nuclear material, explosives, chemical and toxic agents, biological agents, improperly declared cargo, other contraband and people. Northrop Grumman can provide its wide-ranging SEDI services, which may include threat and vulnerability assessments and system integration and installations, at sea and air ports of entry, entrances to high-security facilities, and other high-risk threat sites.
Northrop Grumman's ISS technology enables the assessment of security needs and the development of a systems architecture that combines the necessary sensors, communications networks and operations center systems to create an anti-terrorism security capability for protecting people, facilities, vehicles, infrastructure, and information. ISS integrates approaches and techniques that rely upon protection, detection and deterrence principles and represents a repeatable baseline of methodologies and processes and procedures which can be used in diverse anti-terrorism settings
TASS protects government and commercial personnel, compounds and critical infrastructure from terrorist acts by integrating various sensor packages and routing their inputs to a command and control console that provides situational awareness of a facility's security posture. Northrop Grumman has installed several TASS systems in Southwest Asia in support of the Global War on Terrorism and throughout the world in support of both military and commercial customers.
