Yale University Press Publishes Straight Talk About Cosmetic Surgery

A Leading Plastic Surgeon Helps Consumers Determine What is -- or Isn't -- Right for Them

NEW HAVEN, Conn., March 30, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- This July, Yale University Press will publish STRAIGHT TALK ABOUT COSMETIC SURGERY by Arthur W. Perry, MD, FACS, with a foreword by Michael F. Roizen, MD, best-selling author of the RealAge and You: The Owner's Manual. This empowering book helps consumers make informed decisions about cosmetic surgery procedures.

Many people are dissatisfied with some aspect of their appearance, and more and more are doing something about it. According to the American Society for Plastic Surgeons, a record number of people got cosmetic plastic surgery in the United States in 2006. Correspondingly, there are more plastic surgeons than ever before in the U.S., and frighteningly, a growing number of non-plastic surgeons -- ophthalmologists, general surgeons, dermatologists, even dentists -- are now performing cosmetic surgery. And although another recent survey by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons shows that most cosmetic surgery patients were happy with their results, more than a third felt they should have done more homework.

Just how does one determine if cosmetic surgery is right for them, what procedures work and which doctor to use? In his up-to-the-minute guide, Dr. Arthur W. Perry, a practicing plastic surgeon for more than two decades, examines in close detail each of today's surgical and nonsurgical procedures. In everyday language, aided by more than a hundred illustrations, he assesses the benefits and potential complications of legitimate treatments. He also identifies and frankly discusses ineffective treatments, and offers criteria for selecting good doctors and facilities. In short, he has written an essential book for anyone who is contemplating cosmetic surgery or other skin-care procedures.
