Third Event of the Viscogliosi Economic Leadership Seminar

DEARBORN, Mich., March 30, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-D) hosted today the third installment of its innovative and groundbreaking series, the "Viscogliosi Economic Leadership Seminar," sponsored by Viscogliosi Bros., LLC, (VB), the New York-based merchant banking, venture capital, and investment banking firm devoted to the orthopedics sector of the healthcare market. Anthony G. Viscogliosi ('84), Principal at VB, was in attendance and spoke on behalf of his family, their company, and their generous sponsorship and support.

Mr. Viscogliosi also serves as Chairman of UM-D's Chancellor's Campaign Council, leading the effort to raise $40 million for The University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Entitled "CFO21: Transforming Business Through Accountability," today's presentation focused on CFO practices, including real-life client experiences, the latest trends in finance, and leading edge practices in financial transformation.

Following an introduction from UM-Dearborn Chancellor Daniel Little, renowned speaker and Principal of Deloitte Consulting LLP, Sharafat (Shaz) Khan used his more than 20 years of expertise in the areas of financial strategy, organizational design, and change leadership to engage the attendees -- key business and opinion leaders from the metropolitan Detroit community -- in generating fresh best-practice ideas.

Khan has been an invited speaker and presenter for the G-7 and G-8 conferences of energy ministers and the "The Future of the American Workplace" conference convened by President Bill Clinton. In 2002, he served on Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick's Committee on Operational and Financial Re-Engineering, which helped make recommendations to streamline city government.

Commenting on today's Viscogliosi Economic Leadership Seminar, Mr. Viscogliosi said, "The University of Michigan, and the community of Dearborn itself, continues to hold a special place in my heart. My siblings and I were raised here by parents who were pillars of the community, and my brother Marc and sister Lori also benefited from a UM-Dearborn education. The Viscogliosi Seminar is just one small way that we as a family can give back to the community and University that gave so much to us."

Mr. Viscogliosi continued, "Shaz Khan is an exceptional speaker and brilliant mind in the field of financial strategy. Chancellor Little and his staff did another fantastic job in choosing a presenter who can truly stimulate innovative thinking and constructive dialogue. I believe that everyone in attendance today learned a great deal from Mr. Khan. He is a great asset to this community."

"We developed the Viscogliosi Seminars to bring innovative ideas and practices into use as our region's businesses and industries adapt to a changing economic environment," said UM-D Chancellor Daniel Little. "Each event has been tailored to generate discussion around new, fresh ideas about business organization, strategy and innovation, and the series is designed to promote a sustained dialogue among business and opinion leaders to address issues unique to our area."

In 2004, VB made a donation of $100,000 to the University of Michigan-Dearborn, continuing their tradition of generous support for the communities of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights. In November 2003, Anthony, John and Marc Viscogliosi, all graduates of Dearborn, Michigan public schools, presented the Dearborn Public Schools Education Foundation with the largest single donation the school system has ever received in the amount of $40,000, part of a $250,000 ten-year commitment. The two donations bring the Viscogliosi Family commitment to the Dearborn community to over $350,000.
