Swedish Alcohol Retail Monopoly (Systembolaget) to modernize logistics and point-of-sale systems with IFS Applications

Swedish Alcohol Retail Monopoly (Systembolaget) to modernize logistics and
point-of-sale systems with IFS Applications

IFS will collaborate with other suppliers to modernize the logistics and
point-of-sale (POS) systems for Systembolaget, the Swedish Alcohol Retail
Monopoly. IFS' share of the project includes consulting services valued at
approximately SKr 30 million. Systembolaget's goals include enhancing customer
service and efficiency by introducing a new POS solution and by improving
centralized inventory management and order handling.

The change of POS system will mean that certain back-office processes will be
transferred from the existing POS systems in the stores to the business
applications and to applications in eFabriken, which is Systembolaget's web
platform.

By modernizing its operations Systembolaget expects to achieve:

• Increased agility, speed and efficiency by implementing a new technology
platform that will also minimize technology risk
• Streamlined POS and customer support management that are adapted to the
processes in its self-service stores
• Centralization of inventory balances per store. This in turn will improve
capabilities for centralized inventory management and order handling
• Lower total cost of operating, supporting and managing the system

Systembolaget has been running IFS Applications since 2001. IFS Applications
owns the basic business objects and constitutes the inventory master. The
business applications will support store staff in areas related to inventory
management, stocktaking, supply chain management, and picking/shipping of orders
from customers and distributors. It will also provide general support for
financial follow-up and accounting. The solution is expected to go live in the
first half of 2008.
