Pacific Sunwear Announces March Same Store Sales Increase 14.1 Percent; Total Sales Increase 17.6 Percent


ANAHEIM, Calif., April 12, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Pacific Sunwear of California, Inc. (Nasdaq:PSUN) today reported that total sales for the five weeks of fiscal March ending April 7, 2007 were $140.3 million, an increase of 17.6 percent over total sales of $119.3 million during the same five week period last year. Total Company same-store sales increased 14.1 percent during the same period. Due to the 53rd week in fiscal year 2006, total sales and comparable store sales for fiscal March 2007 are compared to the five-week period ended April 8, 2006. By concept, PacSun same-store sales increased 16.4 percent and demo same-store sales decreased 4.3 percent compared to the same five week period last year.

Total sales for the first nine weeks of fiscal 2007 were $230.1 million, an increase of 10.6 percent over total sales of $208.0 million during the same period last year. Total Company same store sales increased 5.4 percent during the same period. By concept, PacSun same store sales increased 8.2 percent and demo same store sales decreased 10.3 percent compared to the same nine week period last year.

As previously announced, the Company is in the process of closing 74 underperforming demo stores. The sales results and store counts reported in this release do not include the 74 demo stores being closed.
