Entropic Communications Names Accounting Luminary to Board of Directors

Dr. Kenneth A. Merchant to Lead Company Audit Committee


SAN DIEGO, April 17, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Entropic Communications, Inc. has named Dr. Kenneth A. Merchant to its board of directors. Dr. Merchant holds the Deloitte & Touche LLP Chair of Accountancy at the University of Southern California (USC), and he was formerly the Dean of the Leventhal School of Accounting at USC.

Dr. Merchant currently teaches in USC's MBA, Executive MBA and undergraduate accounting programs. He has also served as Senior Associate Dean-Corporate Programs in USC's Marshall School of Business. Professor Merchant is also a research professor (part-time) at the University of Maastricht, The Netherlands. Before joining USC, he taught at Harvard University and the University of California, Berkeley.

Professor Merchant started his professional career at Texas Instruments, Inc., and Ernst & Ernst (now Ernst & Young). He has also worked as a freelance consultant/teacher for many organizations including Amgen, Arco, AT&T, British Airways, Campbell Soup, Digital Equipment, IBM, McGraw-Hill, Novellus Systems, Philip Morris International, Tektronix, Toyota U.S.A. and World Bank.

He has served or is currently serving as a director of Diagnostic Products Corporation (DPC), Universal Guardian Holdings, Inc. (UGHO) and WL Homes LLC (d/b/a John Laing Homes).

Dr. Merchant has a doctorate in accounting from the University of California, Berkeley, a MBA in operations research and production from Columbia University, New York, and a bachelor's degree in industrial economics from Union College, New York.

He has published eight books and numerous journal articles including two textbooks currently in use, Accounting: Text and Case, 12th edition (2007), Irwin/McGraw-Hill (with R.N. Anthony and D.F. Hawkins), and Management Control Systems: Performance Measurement, Evaluation and Incentives, 2nd edition (2007). Financial Times/Prentice-Hall (with W.A. Van der Stede).

Dr. Itzhak Gurantz, a co-founder of Entropic and the company's CTO, has resigned his seat on the Entropic board of directors in order to add Dr. Merchant as an independent director and audit committee chairman.
