Airvana Collaborates With QUALCOMM to Develop Next-Generation Deployable Communications

Technology Enables High-Speed Data, Video and Specialized Voice Applications

CHELMSFORD, Mass., April 24, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Airvana, Inc. (www.airvana.com), an innovator and leader in mobile broadband infrastructure based on 3G wireless packet data technology, today announced its collaboration with QUALCOMM (specifically with the company's Government Technologies division). Airvana will provide CDMA2000 1xEV-DO Revision A (Rev. A) commercial-grade equipment as core components for a QUALCOMM deployable EV-DO Rev. A base station designed to provide reliable and responsive high-speed data connectivity in a modular cellular system.

"Airvana and QUALCOMM are working to bring the benefits of mobile broadband to QUALCOMM's government customers," said Randy Battat, CEO of Airvana. "By leveraging the commercial mobile broadband ecosystem, our solutions will provide significant economies and the broadest possible coverage."

Airvana's technology will help enable mission-critical capabilities for applications used by government personnel, such as rapid database queries, streaming video and situational awareness. The system is compact, easy to operate, easy to deploy and light enough to be vehicle mounted. Airvana's Rev. A architecture also supports specialized, secure voice communications such as secure VoIP -- a capability that can be critical in this environment.

"QUALCOMM is committed to providing the best mobile broadband data connectivity by leveraging the commercial 3G CDMA ecosystem wherever possible, delivering a cost-effective and proven solution," said Diane Winchell, QGOV's Senior Director, Product Management. "Airvana's leadership in broadband radio access technologies, coupled with their track record for steadily delivering enhancements, will help us provide our government customers with a highly reliable platform to continually grow interoperable communications and provide mission-critical data to those who need it anytime, anywhere."
