In today's competitive business environment, insurance companies need to consider either an application service provider (ASP) or a business process outsourcing (BPO) model as a common-sense way to save dollars on tasks, such as billing, that are essential functions but companies don't depend upon to maintain their position in the marketplace. With the ASP model, the insurance company maintains control over their internal function, but uses a third-party's applications and IT systems to process it. In the BPO model, the third-party takes over the complete responsibility for running the back-office function. This panel will explore the differences between the ASP and BPO models and discuss how insurance carriers are using them.
