DONG Energy to proceed with Horns Rev 2

01.05.07
DONG Energy has decided to proceed with the development of the Horns Rev 2 offshore wind farm. The wind farm will be constructed in the North Sea off Esbjerg, which is north of the existing Horns Rev offshore wind farm. The construction will require an investment of approximately DKK 3.5 billion.

DONG Energy is a leading global player in the construction and operation of offshore wind farms. Currently, DONG Energy participates in five out of the seven large-scale (>40MW) offshore wind farms in operation around the world.

The decision to proceed with Horns Rev 2 is in line with the Company´s strategy of ensuring a balanced portfolio of generation assets. The anticipated installed capacity of approximately 200MW is expected to have an annual production of more than 800 GWh, which corresponds to the electricity consumed by approximately 200,000 Danish homes. Once generating, the wind farm will increase DONG Energy's proportion of CO2-neutral electricity generation.

The construction of the wind farm is expected to begin in 2008, and it is expected to be commissioned in 2009.
