Digital mammography order positions BreastCheck, Ireland, to be world's first
totally digital breast screening service

The IT and medical-technology company Sectra will deliver Sectra MicroDose
Mammography, providing the unmatched lowest radiation dose on the market, to the
National Breast Screening program in Ireland. The order from BreastCheck totals
over EUR 1.8 million.

BreastCheck uses Sectra PACS for managing and archiving all breast images and
has evaluated Sectra MicroDose Mammography since the beginning of 2005. Sectra
MicroDose Mammography and other vendor's equipment will be linked into the
existing Sectra Breast Imaging PACS. Following an extensive evaluation period,
BreastCheck is now committed to the rollout of breast screening throughout
Ireland utilizing digital mammography.

“Together with BreastCheck, we have developed a comprehensive digital
infrastructure that will now allow them to extend a fully digital breast
screening service to all eligible women in the country. It is envisaged that the
program will offer this service by the end of 2007. To the best of our
knowledge, it will then be the first national breast screening program in the
world to have achieved a totally digital service,” says Neil Emery, Commercial
Manager for Sectra in Ireland and the United Kingdom.

BreastCheck invites women aged 50-64 for a free breast X-ray examination every
two years. The service, which commenced in February 2000, has gradually been
expanding from its inception in the Eastern, North Eastern and Midlands areas to
now provide a service to all areas of the country. BreastCheck aims to screen
more than 100,000 women annually following the deployment of additional
equipment, with in excess of 500 cancers being expected to be detected in the
first year of screening.

“The decision to purchase Sectra MicroDose Mammography as part of our equipping
solution is based on our experience with Sectra's system during the two-year
evaluation period. We have been pleased with the reliability and image quality
of the systems and expect them to perform just as well in the more demanding
environment of mobile screening trailers in which a number of the new systems
will,” says Niall Phelan, Chief Physicist for BreastCheck.

Safe and efficient mammography throughout Ireland
Sectra's mammography system, Sectra MicroDose Mammography, is based on a unique
photon-counting technology - a technique that an increasing number of experts
point to as the radiology technology of the future. Sectra MicroDose Mammography
provides excellent images and has the decidedly lowest radiation dose of all
systems on the market. As a result of the low dose, combined with outstanding
ergonomics and customized workflow, mammography nurses and radiologists can work
more efficiently and safely, without exposing women to higher radiation than
necessary.
