About the Author
William Bernard Berry was the second son of Milton and Hallie Berry. He was born 1919 in Fairmont, West Virginia. During his thirty-six years with the Hope Natural and Consolidated gas corporations, he held a number of supervisory and management positions. Bernard had a remarkable career in support of industry and community entities. He served on the Clarksburg City Council for eight years. He served as president of several organizations and fourteen Boards. On May 6, 1984 he was honored in having been awarded the Honorary degree, Doctor of Humane Letters by Salem College. On April 20, 1985 he was elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Salem College.
As to his military service, he was assigned to the 380 Bomb Squadron, 310 Bomb Group, stationed on Corsica with campaigns in Roma Arnno, Northern Apennines, Po Valley, Southern France and Rhineland. The author's decorations and awards were the Silver Star for service with the Partisans, Air Medal and two Bronze Leaf Clusters, EAME, Theater Ribbon, with three bronze stars, American Theatre Ribbon, WWII Victory Ribbon, and two Overseas Bars. He was discharged with the rank of Major.
