CANCUN, Mexico, May 15, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- The CDMA Development Group (CDG) announced today that 251 operators in 105 countries across all continents of the globe have selected CDMA2000(r) technologies to deliver 3G services, including more than 100 operators that have chosen CDMA2000 within the past three years. There are currently 215 CDMA2000 operators offering commercial 3G services and 36 more will launch within the next six months. Most of these operators are on the accelerated path to introducing CDMA2000 1xEV-DO mobile broadband services; 124 operators have already deployed or are introducing EV-DO Rel 0 and 30 operators have launched or are about to launch EV-DO Rev A advanced mobile data services.

CDMA2000 continues to add new operators in Asia-Pacific, the Caribbean and Latin America (CALA) and North America, and is rapidly expanding into Africa, the Middle East, Western and Eastern Europe, and Russia.
* Asia-Pacific has the largest number for CDMA2000 networks with 69 operators in 30 countries, followed by CALA with 54 operators in 29 countries. Africa and the Middle East is the third largest region with 52 operators in 31 countries offering 3G services. * Most of the growth in terms of new CDMA2000 operators and markets in the past year has come from developing markets in Africa, the Middle East, and Central and South East Asia, which now account for 40 percent of the total number of CDMA2000 operators worldwide. * CDMA2000 has also made significant inroads in the Northern and Eastern countries of Europe, as well as Russia. There are 40 operators in 13 countries in this highly competitive region. * In terms of adoption of EV-DO technologies, Asia Pacific has the largest number of operators, 33 which offer or soon will launch commercial services, followed by CALA and Africa with 31 and 26 operators respectively. * Since October 2006, when Sprint Nextel launched Rev A in the United States and Puerto Rico, the technology has been embraced by operators across all continents, in developed and developing markets. Today, there are 7 commercial Rev A networks in North America, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa. Out of 23 operators who are deploying Rev A networks, 6 of them are from the Africa and Middle East region, proving the strong business case for Rev A for developing markets.
