Microsemi Announces One-Port High-Power Gigabit PowerDsine Midspan

IRVINE, Calif., May 17, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Microsemi Corporation (Nasdaq:MSCC), a leading manufacturer of high performance analog mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors, announced today the addition of a new one-port high-power gigabit Power over Ethernet (PoE) midspan to its PowerDsine(r) product portfolio.

Designated PD-7001G, this unit maintains the existing PoE standard (IEEE 802.3af) parameters, with double the power, supporting a minimum of 30W at the port output. The gigabit interface makes the PD-7001G an ideal solution for gigabit video phones, WiMAX transmitters or 802.11n access points.

The PD-7001G midspan provides a safe and cost-effective way to deliver power to Ethernet end terminals. More devices can be powered via the network, thus eliminating the need to use additional power supplies or to install costly power outlets close to end devices.

With an efficiency rating greater than 80%, the PD7001G midspan is able to deliver high power in a compact, light-weight unit having low-temperature operation for longer product life and quality performance.

The PD-7001G is the high-power 'big brother' of the one-port PD-3001 and PD-3001G PowerDsine midspans designed for IEEE 802.3af applications. More than 600,000 of these two units have been shipped to date.

The PowerDsine PD-7001G midspan generates safe power over standard Cat 5 cabling, providing maximum power by using a 55 volt output. The unit includes a unique interlocking feature that allows users to scale deployments by linking together multiple one-port midspan units, as new devices are added to the network. The unit comes with an internal AC/DC converter, eliminating the need for an external power supply.
