QLogic SANbox 6140 Intelligent Storage Router Extends the Reach of Veritas NetBackup

Symantec Qualifies QLogic SANbox 6140 Intelligent Storage Router

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., May 21, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- QLogic Corp. (Nasdaq:QLGC), the leader in Fibre Channel host bus adapters (HBAs), stackable switches and blade server switches, today announced the QLogic(r) SANbox(r) 6140 intelligent storage router has been qualified with Veritas NetBackup from Symantec Corp. With only a few large, expensive servers typically sharing storage on a storage area network (SAN), the SANbox 6140 can dramatically increase disk and tape storage utilization by providing SAN access to large numbers of low-cost servers in a data center. In addition, the SANbox 6140 streamlines the backup process in the enterprise by enabling low-cost servers and servers in branch offices to be backed up to common SAN-based backup devices like Fibre Channel tape libraries, virtual tape libraries, and disk storage.

"SAN professionals in Global 2000 corporations find it difficult to connect low-cost servers to their SANs due to the high cost, low performance, and limited interoperability of various router solutions," said Shishir Shah, general manager, QLogic Storage Services Group. "With N-port technology for transparent connectivity to any SAN, and a price under $10,000, the SANbox 6140 delivers the price/performance and interoperability to pragmatically extend the reach of NetBackup across multi-protocol SANs."

"It's clear the migration of backup data streams is moving from the LAN to the SAN and the combination of Veritas NetBackup and the SANbox 6140 support customer requirements for advanced data protection," said Mike Adams, group product marketing manager, Symantec.

QLogic SANbox 6140 Intelligent Storage Routers - Low Cost SAN Connectivity

The QLogic SANbox 6140 provides low cost, SAN connectivity services for the entire enterprise. The SANbox 6140 provides a solution that creates cost-effective SAN connectivity by routing standard Ethernet, via iSCSI, to Fibre Channel SANs. The QLogic SANbox 6140 provides three core capabilities that leverage the benefits and investments that businesses have made in SANs. First, the 6140 allows all servers in the enterprise to connect to the SAN via low-cost and standard Ethernet. Second, all Fibre Channel SAN devices become multi-protocol devices, via iSCSI. Third, it provides simple migration of stand-alone DAS-to-SAN based storage. With performance to support 512 servers, and wizard-based configuration, the SANbox 6140 sets the standard for storage router price/performance and ease-of-use. Based on the same proven QLogic ASIC technology that powers over 50 million storage products sold by leading storage vendors, SANbox 6000 Series intelligent storage routers offer unparalleled levels of performance and scalability.
