MCLEAN, Va., May 29, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employee Louisa (Lisa) Lundgren was awarded the Chief Nurse Officer Award for outstanding contributions to the nursing profession and her work with public health partners to prevent vector-borne diseases.

The Chief Nurse Officer Award was established to acknowledge professional nurses who have influenced clinical or non-clinical settings through their commitment to nursing and the ideals of the Public Health Service. The award is given by Rear Adm. Dr. Carol Romano, chief nurse officer of Public Health Service, and Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Lundgren is a public health analyst for Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector. In this role, she supports the health communication and education, and behavioral science mission for the CDC Division of Vector-borne Infectious Diseases. Lundgren serves as a translator of the scientific work generated by the CDC researchers. This scientific information is translated and shared with the CDC's state and local public health partners to promote public behavioral changes to help prevent the contraction of diseases. Currently, Lundgren is advancing a project to investigate and help improve clinician's guidance for vector-borne disease prevention.

Lundgren was selected for this award based on her work studying the impact of the West Nile virus on the public, her volunteer time on a clinicians information hotline during the 2004-2005 influenza vaccine shortage, and her efforts developing educational materials about the Japanese encephalitis virus vaccine that were used by decision makers in the medical field.
In 2006, Lundgren traveled to Tanzania to provide volunteer labor at a hospital and continues to support fundraising efforts for the facility. She is active with human rights organizations in Northern Colorado and the United Nations Association of the U.S.A.
Lundgren earned a bachelor's degree in political science from The College of Wooster, Ohio; a bachelor's degree in nursing from Boston University; and a master's degree in public health nursing from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She also holds a Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Metropolitan State College, Denver.
