TASER Device Saves Suicidal Woman's Life

WASHINGTON, May 30, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- TASER International, Inc. (Nasdaq:TASR), a market leader in advanced electronic control devices, released the following News Alert:

According to reports from the Times Colonist in Victoria, Canada, a distraught woman found by police cutting her legs with shards of glass was subdued by a TASER electronic control device Friday night outside the Cool Aid Community Health Center near Store and Swift streets. The 40-year-old woman, who answers to Blanche in the street community, was discovered by officers of the downtown bike squad with her pant legs rolled up, stabbing both legs and driving shards of glass up into her thighs. Officers reported that the wounds were so deep that they could see her exposed femoral artery pulsing.

At one point the woman turned the glass to her throat while yelling and talking to herself about her boyfriend. It was then that Officer Andre Almeida deployed his TASER device to prevent the woman from further harming herself.

"I went through all the options," said Almeida. "But when she went to her throat, at that point, I believed I had to TASER her to save her life."

Blanche was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police believe the cause of her distress was a combination of cocaine and troubles with her boyfriend. The woman's condition is unknown.
