Manhattan Gets World's Largest Sand Pail -- Video Available

RIDGEWOOD, N.J., May 31, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- To officially kick off the East Coast beach season, sand sculptors went to work on 20 tons of sand surrounding an eight foot high sand pail and shovel --not on the beach, but in the heart of Manhattan.

Sculptors, to the delight of children and other passersby, were carving a castle in a giant sandbox set up in Union Square by the New Jersey Office of Travel and Tourism. to promote the state's 127 miles of sandy beaches.

Visitors got a replica of the sand pail, and Nancy Byrne, executive director of the New Jersey tourism office, provided highlights of the attractions along state beaches.
