Philadelphia St. Patrick's Day Parade Co-Hosts the 2007 Irish Festival at the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing

PHILADELPHIA, May 31, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- As one of the many PECO Multicultural Series' events, the Irish Festival is one of the most vibrant. Irish culture is celebrated on the Great Plaza at Penn's Landing, Columbus Boulevard and Chestnut Street. The festival of music, dancing, food, and entertainment will be held Saturday, June 23 and Sunday, June 24 from 12 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The 9th annual Irish Festival is a family event that features well-known Irish musical performers. The gates will open at 12 Noon on Saturday and Sunday and admission is free. Guests can enjoy the music of the Bogside Rogues, 7 Nations, and Round Tower on the main stage on Saturday, along with Tom Curtis and Matt Kelly inside the pavilion. On Sunday, the main stage will feature Jameson, Sean Fleming, and Blackthorn, with Peter McDonald as the featured performer inside the pavilion. Sunday will also feature a special performance by Timmy Kelly.

Irish dance troupes such as Rince Ri, Cara, Coyle, and Kids for America will perform on the main stage on Saturday. Sunday will feature performances from Caitrin, McDade, and McHugh along with the dance troupe Cara in a special performance with blind vocalist Timmy Kelly.

In addition to great musical performances, the Irish Festival has something for people of all ages. There will be bagpipers, face painting, and Irish dancing along with other entertainment for the kids. Local dance schools will conduct dance exhibitions and there will also be an Irish dance contest.

The kitchen from Finnigan's Wake will be serving Irish favorites such as Shepard's Pie, Bangors and mashed potatoes, and pulled pork. Over twenty different vendors will be selling authentic and traditional Irish goods and crafts.
