Defending Division II National Champion Grand Valley State Selects FieldTurf

ALLENDALE, Mich., June 5, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- FieldTurf has been selected for installation at Grand Valley State's new indoor athletic complex, it was announced today by Grand Valley State Director of Athletics Tim Selgo and FieldTurf Tarkett CEO John Gilman. FieldTurf will be installed in GVSU's new Movement Science Indoor Recreational Facility in the summer of 2008 with the building scheduled to open that fall.

The Movement Science Indoor Recreational Facility will be utilized by Grand Valley's football squad, and will also be used by other GVSU intercollegiate athletic teams, intramural and club athletics and movement science classes.

In 2006, Grand Valley won the NCAA Division II national championship when the Lakers defeated Northwest Missouri State. In addition, Grand Valley had five players earn AP All-America honors last season and had four players from their '06 title squad who recently signed NFL contracts.

"We put the highest priority on the surface we would use in our new facility and we chose FieldTurf," said Selgo. "FieldTurf is the closest artificial surface there is to natural grass and we are excited that all of our students at Grand Valley that are involved in academic classes, club sports, intramurals, and intercollegiate athletics will all be able to participate on the best."

"We are certainly pleased to be able to deliver another state-of-the-art FieldTurf surface to yet another Midwestern campus," said Gilman. "Our product is very popular in that region, and we know that area clients such as the Detroit Lions, the University of Michigan and many others are enormously pleased with their FieldTurf. In addition to the various Grand Valley teams that will utilize their new facility, it's great that the GVSU students will also get the opportunity to experience the world's finest athletic surface."

FieldTurf has already established itself as the turf of choice in the National Football League and in NCAA football. Twenty-one of the NFL's 32 teams currently use FieldTurf at their stadiums and/or their practice facilities. FieldTurf is currently in use in more than 40 NCAA football stadiums including Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, Rutgers, Kansas State, Boston College, Louisville and Missouri.
